You’ve found your favourite Pilates class at Inna Essence. You’re making ideal food choices. You’ve carved out ‘me time’…and yet, something still feels off.
You still wake up tired, the to-do list feels heavier, your mind won’t switch off at night and the kids are unsettled. Life feels like you’re constantly pushing against a current, no matter how hard you try to create change in your life.
What if the missing piece isn’t something you do — but something surrounding you?
Your Home is Quietly Shaping How You Feel
We often focus on the body in an effort to improve our wellbeing, but we rarely stop to consider the environment surrounding our body and its impact on our health.
Our homes attract and hold energy which our bodies are responding to every single moment — whether we’re aware of it or not.
The layout of a room, the choice of decor, and the accumulation of clutter will constantly effect how we feel, how we sleep, how we relate to the people we love, and how easily we can maintain the healthy habits we work so hard to build.
When a home’s energy is out of balance, it often shows up as:
- Persistent fatigue and a lack of motivation you can’t quite explain
- Difficulty maintaining routines — including the ones you know would help
- Brain fog or poor focus, even when you’re rested
- Emotional reactivity or moodiness, especially in the afternoons and evenings
- Disrupted sleep for you or your children
- Ongoing stress and overwhelm that feels disproportionate to your circumstances
- Relationship tension that seems to simmer just beneath the surface
If several of these resonate with you, your home’s energy may not be supporting you, and that’s where modern Feng Shui comes in.
So, What Is Modern Feng Shui?
I like to think of Feng Shui as yoga for the home.
Just like your weekly yoga class works to release tension and restore flow within the body and mind, Feng Shui works to release energetic tension and restore flow within your living space.
At its heart, Feng Shui is about energy. The same invisible force that allows the moon to move the tides of the ocean, that makes us feel instinctively at ease in some spaces and unsettled in others. It’s the art of working with that energy, to create a home that actively supports health, happiness, and abundance.
Modern Feng Shui takes the ancient practice and applies it to the current busy life we live today. It’s subtle, stylish, and beautifully practical. No lucky statues required. No compromising your design taste. No overhaul of your home or your religious beliefs.
How It Works
In modern Feng Shui, the home is mapped into nine key areas. Each area corresponds to an area of life:
- Centre – Overall health and wellbeing
- South East – Wealth and prosperity
- East – Family and community support
- North East – Knowledge and skill building
- North – Career and life’s journey
- North West – Helpful people and travel
- West – Fertility, children and new beginnings
- South West – Love and marriage
- South – Recognition and reputation
Once we understand which areas of your home are influencing the areas of your life, we can work to release stagnant energy and invite a positive, supportive flow in its place.
In practice, this often involves:
- Adjusting furniture placement to improve the natural flow of energy through a space
- Improving lighting to lift and energise specific areas of the home
- Reducing clutter to remove the energetic weight that accumulates over time
- Targeted remedies for specific challenges such as sleep or illnesses
- Intentional additions to activate the life you want to attract — placing meaningful objects in the corresponding area of the home. A collection of travel photos in the travel area. A vision of your dream home in the wealth corner. Deliberate actions that speak to your intentions and invite more of what you want into your life.
The goal isn’t a perfect, magazine-worthy home. It’s a home that feels calm, easy, and flowing. A home that supports the life you actually want to live, in all its beautiful, busy, family reality.
One thing you can do today is start with what you already have. Go through each room and remove anything that’s broken, no longer needed, or simply doesn’t make you feel good. Open the windows, clear the surfaces, organise the cupboards. In Feng Shui, clutter carries energetic weight and releasing it is one of the most immediate ways to shift how a space feels. You may be surprised how much lighter you feel once it’s gone.
The Impact on Children
Children are exquisitely sensitive to energy, often more so than adults. For neurodivergent children in particular, environmental overwhelm is very real, even when it’s invisible to the eye.
Small, targeted Feng Shui adjustments to a child’s bedroom can create meaningful shifts in:
- Sleep quality — deeper, more settled, more consistent
- Behaviour and emotional regulation — calmer, less reactive
- Focus and learning — better concentration, less distraction
- Mealtime ease — less resistance and more connected moments
Sometimes it can be as simple as repositioning a bed to allow a child’s nervous system to feel safer during sleep. I help clients create a children’s bedroom that becomes a true sanctuary after long, demanding days at school.
When Your Home Supports You, Everything Becomes Easier
Your wellness efforts like consistent yoga classes, become easier to maintain when your home is no longer silently creating resistance.
When we combine healthy habits with a home environment that actively supports your wellbeing, something shifts. Life begins to flow with more ease, you feel better, your family feels the difference, and the wellness you’ve been working towards starts to deepen and transformation takes place.
Want Feng Shui in your home?
One of the things I love most about working in this space is that modern Feng Shui consultations can be done by video call. This means I can support families right across Australia (and beyond). You share your space with me, and together we create a tailored plan for transformation.
If this has resonated with you, I’d love to connect and support you. Whether you’re looking for a simple starting point or a deep and lasting transformation of your whole home, there’s an option designed for exactly where you are.
Your home has the potential to be one of the greatest tools in your wellness toolkit. Let’s unlock it together.
