Meet Denette – Our Inna Spirit Member of the Month for August!
Each month, our Inna Spirit Member of the Month celebrates a member whose presence makes the studio a warmer place to be. Denette is softly spoken and gentle — the kind of person who could almost fly under the radar. But her positive spirit and sincerity haven’t gone unnoticed. Our team and our members see her, and we’re so pleased to share a little of her story.
What was going on in your life that made you realise something needed to change?
I’ve always had a calling for Yoga. My old studio had closed, but I never had the confidence to come to Inna Essence. My health had slipped, I was feeling so exhausted — just tired and weak — and my confidence was low. I didn’t know if I’d be able to do the classes.
But I kept thinking, I have to go and have a look. I visited the studio on Open Day, and the place had the most beautiful feel. The words on the front door really resonated with me — and you really do feel that when you’re here. It just felt like my kind of vibe. I was craving community and connection. Being busy with kids and working, I’d lost that for a while. It’s been lovely to arrive at a place with like-minded, lovely people.
What stood out to you about Inna Essence when you were deciding where to begin?
“I kept hearing good things about the studio from other locals, and I felt instantly comfortable the moment I walked in. Such a pleasant environment. The team were so supportive, and the teachers are so knowledgeable — you know you’re in good hands. You’re met where you’re at, you’re encouraged, and you work within your capabilities. Then over time, you feel so accepted and connected with everyone — and that’s what keeps me going.”
How did you feel walking into your first class, and how did that change after a few sessions?
“I’d never done Reformer before, and I was really apprehensive at first. But the environment here really promotes valuing yourself. I wanted to be and feel better — and I was supported every step of the way.”
What changes have you noticed in your body, mindset, or daily life since becoming a member?
“Mentally I noticed a change first, and then quite quickly I felt stronger physically. The way I carry myself and my posture have all improved. Healthy aging is so important — good balance, strength, and quality of life. I feel so much stronger both physically and mentally, and the education from the teachers about why we’re doing things is so valuable. You’re not left to yourself like in a gym — here, you’re guided safely.”
Can you share a moment where you realised, “wow, this is really working”?
“Doing Reformer classes and overcoming that initial apprehension — realising, I can do this, I’m not going to fall into the machine! Week by week, I’m actually holding myself and not tiring as quickly. I’ve felt my core getting stronger, and everything comes with greater ease.”
Do you have a favourite class or instructor, and what makes it stand out for you?
“I love Paula’s Mat Pilates classes. Paula is so switched on — she asks every person how they’re feeling. She makes the class fun, and you feel seen. And Silke is my favourite Yoga teacher. The way she runs her classes really aligns with me — a holistic class where everything is covered.
I feel energised and bubbly after a Pilates class, and I have a giggle with some of the other members. After Yoga, I feel so relaxed — my head is clear, clear of all the stress.”
What keeps you motivated to show up consistently each week?
“The gains I’m getting, personally and physically, as well as the connection with the members. I’ve made some lovely friends, and it’s really nice to go in, have a little chat, and do the class. My wellbeing, all over, has improved so much.”
If someone was feeling unsure or intimidated about starting, what would you say to them?
“Don’t be afraid to walk through the door — you will be met with kindness and support. There is so much encouragement from the teachers and the members. You are valued as an individual.”
Congratulations, Denette, and thank you for the warmth and sincerity you bring to the studio every week. We’re so glad you walked through the door.
If Denette’s story feels familiar — if it’s been a while, and you’re not sure where to start — come and have a look. You’ll be met exactly where you’re at.
