The Total Barre Foundation Course provides the groundwork for Instructors, enabling them to produce safe, effective and varied programs that address the needs and goals of every client. The Course presents 11 specially arranged and selected segments – accompanied by timed selections of music – that serve as the template for each session or class and produce a balanced and complete workout. Participants are also introduced to the Total Barre Principles.

The dynamic Total Barre™ program is intended for those already working in the fields of fitness or movement. Instructors looking to bring music-inspired movement to their clients will love the 11 specially arranged and selected segments that serve as the template for each session or class.

Pre-Teen Mat Pilates Classes – Christmas School Holidays 2019

Are you on the lookout for an activity for your kids this school holidays?

 

Inna Essence Yoga and Pilates studio in Underwood is offering Pre-Teen Mat Pilates classes on Friday’s during the holidays for children aged 9 to 14. Taken by our BASI-trained pilates instructor Subita, these 50 minute classes are designed to be fun and challenging, facilitating greater postural strength and confidence.

 

These sessions are running on Friday’s 13th, 20th, 27th December and 3rd and 10th January from 11am to 11.50am.

 

Our Inna Essence classes will help your child become more balanced, engaged and focused. At our studio, we pride ourselves on providing a fun environment where kids can learn skills to help them developmentally, socially and physically.

Yoga Classes

Restorative Yoga

Many of us are familiar with the terms of yin and yang, movement and stillness, stress and relaxation or even energy and lethargy. In this fast paced world where we continue to grow and develop ourselves, our careers, our relationships and our lives, we often spend most of our days in our yang or stress state and very little taking the time to find space for yin and relaxation.

Restorative Yoga is a long, slow and deep variation to complement your daily life and yoga practice. Guided through an hour of relaxation, using props to bring you into supported bliss where you de-stress and rejuvenate. This provides a deeper opening within the physical body and the opportunity to challenge your mind to find stillness through following, noticing and observing the shifting of energy within the body.

 

Yin Yoga

We specialise in Yin Yoga at Inna Essence. A Yin Yoga class stretches and targets both the deep connective tissues between the muscles, and the fascia throughout the body. The aim is to increase circulation in the joints and improve flexibility as the postures stretch and exercise the bone and joints. It also helps to regulate the body’s flow of energy.

A slow, long stretching class where you get a chance to quiet that noisy mind and release tight connective tissues safely. Great for flexibility, focus and improving breathing.

 

Strong Flow Yoga

A slightly faster pace (but not a race!). You synchronise your breath with movement, creating a lovely flowing practice that will leave you feeling completely refreshed and strong. Expect to progress with your practice over time.

 

Gentle Flow Yoga

A lovely all-rounder, great for all levels, especially if you’re wanting something gentler. A flowing practice with breath work, stretching, balancing and meditation.

 

Vin Yin Yoga

The best of 2 worlds!

Where we blend a little flow and then go slow, into restorative bliss. The yin and yang of yoga!

You will move for the first 30 minutes and then restore and relax for the last 30!

Barre Classes

 

Pilates Barre

Pilates with a touch of ballet that doesn’t require you to be (or have been) a ballerina!

A fusion of pilates and ballet inspired movements, designed to raise your heart rate, tone your body and create longer and leaner muscles.

Reformer and Mat Pilates Classes

Reformer Express

A 30 minute group class using our beautiful Pioneer Pilates Reformer; fully supervised and facilitated by our BASI and STOTT trained instructors.

Maximum of 6 clients per class ensures an intensely focused session with modifications to cater from beginner to advanced participants

Mat Pilates

Traditional pilates mat class, focusing on breathing, alignment and stability of the ribs and pelvis. Pilates is essentially about re-educating your body, undoing the damage that years of stress and immobility inflict. By repeatedly holding certain corrective positions, our musculature starts to retain a memory of how they feel, and in time will actually adopt them automatically – without us having to think about them.

Stretch & Flow Mat 

A 50 minute class focusing on flow-based movements that stretch and lengthen your muscles. Good for anyone who is not a yogi but would like to improve their flexibility.

 

Contrology

“Return to Life Through Contrology” 

A class designed around Joseph Pilates’s original sequence of movements, placing focus on technique, alignment and foundations of pilates.

Suitable for all levels and when attended regularly provides a great measure for your personal progress and control with technique.

Why yoga can help heal your soul

Magic Quiche

Underwood Yoga and Pilates Studio, Inna Essence

INGREDIENTS

 3 organic free-range eggs
 1/2 cup ricotta cheese
 1 cup milk
 1/2 cup Wheat flour
 1 tsp baking powder
 1 Tbsp Coconut Oil or good quality cold-pressed oil
 1/2 tsp salt
 1 shallot – chopped
 Freshly ground black pepper to taste
 Freshly chopped herbs (basil, coriander, parsley, rosemary or thyme)
 1-2 tomatoes, sliced

INSTRUCTIONS

1. Preheat oven to 180C (160C if fan-forced).
2. Combine all ingredients (except tomatoes) and mix well.
3. Pour into a glass dish and top with the tomatoes.
4. Bake for 40 minutes (30 minutes if fan-forced) or until egg is cooked and golden.
5. Serve with a lovely big green salad.

Why yoga and pilates?

Yoga and Pilates gives me a great balance in my training – mentally and physically. It’s unusual, but I first started Pilates doing Reformer classes and later branched our to mat classes – to improve my form. Doing a number of mat classes with reformer gives me the chance to constantly work on and improve my practice.

This is has been even better by doing some Yoga classes. Yoga grounds me and has given me a physical strength I hadn’t expected which has also improved my Pilates practice.

Mari-Anne has had a full life and career before she chose to study yoga in order to enhance her own practice. She then chose to share her passion for what she had learnt in the classroom and begin teaching and sharing her knowledge.

Staff Spotlight with Subita

Brisbane Pilates Instructor

Born and raised in Malaysia,  Subita has been passionate about all things athletic. She moved to Orange County in Southern California in 1995 after a five year career as a flight attendant with Malaysia Airlines.

She has fostered a love of hiking, running, hot yoga and wine studies; anything that allows her to be outdoors and enjoying nature.

Why Pilates?

Subita discovered pilates while rehabilitating a pinched nerve in 2005. She immediately gravitated towards it after experiencing firsthand a discipline that promotes balance and alignment as well as strength.

Training

After falling head over heels with her pilates practice, Subita pursued formal studies in the discipline, studying under the founder of BASI Pilates, Rael Isacowitz. She was certified through the BASI Pilates Comprehensive Teacher Training Course in 2009. 

After 20 years in the US as a citizen and leaving behind her corporate career of 15 years, Subita currently resides in Calamvale. After four years living in Australia, she was presented with the opportunity to teach pilates again in 2017.  Throughout her career in Australia, she has had the opportunity to work with a variety of clients ranging from children to teenage athletes, dancers, new mothers, clients wishing to enhance specific sports related endeavours and the elderly population.

Subita is excited and inspired by the broad spectrum of the population that pilates and yoga relates to, and how it can be tailored to address individual needs while its principles are infallible and never changing.

Subita teaches Reformer Pilates, Mat Pilates and Barre classes in Brisbane and is a Senior Instructor at Inna Essence. She is driven by the opportunity to share her love of the pilates method and the Body Arts & Science technique with clients, and loves to watch them integrate the work into their bodies and their lives.

Balance Your Life Workshop

This light-hearted workshop will dive into uncovering where we are out of balance in our lives and looks at a few simple principles to re-establish balance (without adding overwhelm).

Underwood Yoga Studio

Facilitated by our Inna Essence co-founder Kimberley, we will cover a few principles of Ayurveda (an ancient life science that looks at mind/body balance and well- being) to easefully bring in easy to-do steps to bring about more balance when life knocks us off our stride.

Do you take Pilates home with you?

Do you practice Pilates in your everyday life, or just in class?

The principles of Pilates are beneficial and life-changing in all aspects of your life, not just when you are in the studio on your mat or reformer.

Have you thought about whether you are applying the techniques you have learnt in class throughout your day after you leave the studio?

Here are some simple tips to help you take your Pilates with you when you leave the studio:

Do you find yourself slumped in your seat whilst driving?

Find your neutral pelvis and spine when you are driving your car.  Every time you stop at a red light, check your posture, sit up tall with a neutral spine and get those abs switched on.

How is your posture when you are standing at the kitchen bench?

Open up those shoulders while you are preparing food. Every time you have a knife in your hand, check your posture, roll your shoulders up and slide them down your back and get those abs switched on.

Are you thinking about your bottom while you are brushing your teeth?

Make it a habit to switch on your glutes while you are in the bathroom brushing. Have a strong stance, squeeze those butt cheeks and get your abs switched on.

Do you find yourself standing in a queue with a sore back?

Instead of standing still, do some calf raises. Squeeze your legs as you rise up and down with your heels and get your abs engaged, drawing up gently on your pelvic floor.

Do you sit at a desk all day?

Don’t forget to get up and move your body at least once every hour. As well as having a little walk, incorporate your roll down into your movement breaks. Roll down into your forward fold and return to standing three times every hour and remember to get your abdominals engaged whilst you are doing it.

You may have noticed a theme throughout all of these tips! Yes, getting into the habit of switching on and engaging your abdominals is vital to creating and maintaining good posture.

The more you check in with yourself and your posture in your everyday lives, the more you will make it a lasting habit!

Yoga 4 Dignity

Inna Essence is hosting a Yoga 4 Dignity event in August; all proceeds will be donated to the Share the Dignity charity.

Our beautiful yoga instructor Mari-Anne is donating her time to hold space for you and this special event.

Saturday 31st August at 9.40am

Share the Dignity collects thousands of pads, tampons and personal hygiene products every year for women experiencing homelessness and poverty. They fund funerals for victims of domestic violence and campaign for justice for women in Australia. 

We are so grateful to be able to take part in this event. It means we can make a difference to homeless women and victims of domestic violence.

School Holiday Kids Yoga and Mindfulness

Special movement & mindfulness class for children aged between 5 – 12 years; incorporating movement from both Yoga & Pilates.

Games & storytelling to keep them engaged, finishing off with mindfulness & breathing exercises.

Monday 8th and Wednesday 10th July 12.30pm to 1.15pm

6 Week Yoga Beginners Course

This course is for you if you’ve always wanted to ‘do’ yoga but don’t want to walk into a class because you feel you don’t know what you’re doing, or think you’re not flexible enough!

This six week course is $115 and also includes one Yoga class per week with us in the studio.

Commencing 11th August 2.30pm to 3.30pm for six consecutive Sundays.

This course is designed specifically to take you through the most common poses, with safe alignment for your body. It is aimed to empower you to know what is right for your body and to feel comfortable in any class, in any studio.

This course is also ideal if you already have a yoga practice and would like to brush up on your skills and deepen your practice.

Candlelight Yoga with live Harp and Flute

When we look after ourselves, we are better able to serve those who need us. Indulge in an incredibly special combination of live music and relaxing yoga at Inna Essence.

6.30pm to 8.30pm Friday 28th June 2019

$45 per person, including yoga and refreshments after the session

Let us serve you and allow us to bathe you in the beautiful sounds of Duo Fawn as Kimberley guides you through a breathing relaxation meditation which flows seemlessly into a nourishing Yin class and short yoga nidra. As you are soothed by the practice, be absorbed by the soft healing tones of the flute and harp. This is a magically nurturing experience which ends with time to connect over a few bubbles and healthy bliss balls.

If you’ve been feeling stressed, exhausted, out of balance, perhaps pulled in all different directions and find it hard to carve out some time to recharge your inner essence, then this workshop is your portal of nourishment and a mini reset.

Cost for this special event is $45 per person

6 Week Pilates Beginners Course

Have you ever wanted to do Pilates, but have felt too intimidated or unsure how to?

This six week course is $115 and also includes one Mat Pilates class per week with us in the studio.

This course at Inna Essence is the very thing to begin your journey with Pilates in a safe, nurturing space.


You will be introduced to the benefits & practices of Pilates and a little history over the course of 6 weeks. This course is for you if you’re an absolute beginner or anyone who wants to revisit the foundations and strengthen their personal practice.

The course will start with the right education & knowledge to empower you to be in control of your own movements as you progress over the 6 weeks. Each week you will then be introduced to and guided through exercises, learning correct alignment, breathing & relevant modifications. You will put together what you have learned in a mini masterclass at the end of each session.

Intro to Pilates breathing & alignment
The importance of the mind/body connection
Difference between Pilates & Yoga and how they
compliment each other
Understanding the block system
