Intensive Matwork STOTT course

INTENSIVE MAT-PLUS™

This course is intended for those already working in the fields of fitness or movement or if you’ve completed the Functional Anatomy Course.

Becoming a STOTT PILATES® Mat instructor you will be building on your industry knowledge it teaches you to design and lead the Level 1 Essential and Intermediate STOTT PILATES Matwork repertoire, for personal or group training settings for a range of clients. You will leave with a solid foundation and required skills to develop effective and motivating Pilates Matwork programs.

The STOTT PILATES® Intensive Program (Level 1) is intended for those already working in the fields of fitness or movement, or those who have completed the Online Anatomy course and have a keen interested in Pilates. The course teaches you to design and lead Essential and Intermediate STOTT Pilates Matwork repertoire, for personal or group training settings for a range of clients. You will leave with a solid foundation and required skills to develop effective and motivating programs.

Intensive Reformer STOTT Course

INTENSIVE REFORMER

This course is intended for those already working in the fields of fitness or movement, or completed the Anatomy of Movement Course and want to attend the Teacher Training program for Reformer.

Building on your industry knowledge it teaches you to design and lead the Level 1 Essential and Intermediate STOTT PILATES Reformer repertoire for personal or group training settings for a range of clients. You will leave with a solid foundation and required skills to develop effective and motivating Pilates Reformer programs. While IR may be taken prior to IMP, we recommend completing IMP first.

Reformer is the most popular piece of equipment in Pilates. Learn how to use the highly versatile tool to program and instruct personal training and group classes with confidence using hundreds of spring resistance exercises.This course teaches how to design and instruct Level 1 (Essential & Intermediate) Reformer workout.

Athletic Conditioning: Performance Enhancing Progressions and Sequences

Experience new mat-based movement sequences and progressions that will build strength and endurance, improve movement health and enhance athletic preparedness.

Based on an understanding of the concepts of Activation, Conditioning, Endurance and Recovery, this workshop reviews traditional approaches to performance-based training and highlights newer methodology and concepts.

 

Essential Matwork with a Fascial Focus

This workshop provides instructors tools to incorporate new fascial research concepts within the body of the STOTT PILATES Essential Matwork repertoire.

Following the Essential Matwork order, participants explore how exercise essences can be enhanced with new fascial research concepts, inspiring a new movement experience.

 

Intensifying Essential Matwork

Learn to challenge clients with maximum safety and effectiveness by taking STOTT PILATES® Essential Matwork to a higher level of intensity.

Discover how to add variety and increase the pace of a workout to improve muscular endurance and core stability, without sacrificing control and quality.

 

Intensifying Essential Reformer

Learn to challenge clients with maximum safety and effectiveness by taking STOTT PILATES Essential Reformer exercises to a higher level of intensity.

This workshop will show you how to increase muscular and cardiovascular endurance by increasing the speed and flow of exercise sequences.

  • The STOTT PILATES Six Basic Principles

  • Essential, Intermediate, Power workouts

  • Flex-Band, Fitness Circle and Arc Barrel variations

  • Effective communication and observational skills

  • Verbal cueing and imagery for performance enhancement and client motivation

  • Theory and practice of postural analysis

  • 63 exercises plus modifications for specific body types, postural issues and conditions

  • How to incorporate resistance equipment to support and intensify exercises

  • Exercise layering related to effective program design

  • Workout composition for personal and group training

 

Requirements of certification

  • 40 hours of instruction and supervised teaching

  • Minimum of 10 hours of observation

  • Minimum of 30 hours of physical review

  • Minimum of 15 hours of practice teaching

  • Total: 95 hours

 

Observation, practice teaching & physical review

A minimum number of hours of observation, practice teaching and physical review are required for all courses and should be completed between instructed sessions at any STOTT PILATES® facility. Additional training may be required before certification. Practice teaching and physical review hours must be logged outside of class time. The practice logs must be submitted on your exam date (either written or practical exam).

Observation

Includes watching sessions taught by a STOTT PILATES Certified Instructor or relevant STOTT PILATES videos (obtained from Merrithew Head Office).

Physical review

Means physically performing the exercises learned in class. Taking a class with a STOTT PILATES Certified Instructor or working out with video can qualify as physical review hours, and can be completed individually or with other students.

Practice teaching

Hours can be fulfilled by instructing family, fellow students, friends or clients.

INTENSIVE REFORMER

Our STOTT Reformer Pilates course offers you the chance to deepen your pilates knowledge and experience. This course is intended for those already working in the fields of fitness or movement, as well as those who have been practicing Pilates and have a keen interest.

Conducted over 10 days, this course will teach you to design and lead the Level 1 Essential and Intermediate STOTT PILATES Reformer repertoire for personal or group training settings for a range of clients. You will leave with a solid foundation and required skills to develop effective and motivating Pilates Reformer programs.

What you will learn:

  • The STOTT PILATES Six Basic Principles

  • Essential, Intermediate, Power workouts

  • Effective use of the reformer to enhance torso stability and strength, peripheral extremity conditioning, joint stability, flexibility, balance and coordination

  • Effective communication and observational skills

  • Verbal cueing and imagery for performance enhancement and client motivation

  • Theory and practice of postural analysis

  • 139 exercises plus modifications for specific body types, postural issues and conditions

  • How to incorporate resistance equipment to support and intensify exercises

  • Exercise layering related to effective program design

  • Workout composition for personal and group training

 

Requirements of certification

  • 50 hours of instruction and supervised teaching

  • Minimum of 10 hours of observation

  • Minimum of 40 hours of physical review

  • Minimum of 25 hours of practice teaching

  • Total: 125 hours

Intensive Reformer STOTT Course

ONLINE FUNCTIONAL ANATOMY COURSE

This online course prepares students to have a practical understanding of movement, anatomy and physiology required  for any Pilates, Yoga or Personal Fitness teaching program.

There is a focus on anatomical terminology, which includes anatomical position, planes of motion, types of movement, names and locations of the majority of the bones in the body, locations and actions of joints, major muscle groups and the individual muscles’ origin insertion and action.

Select exercises from the STOTT PILATES® repertoire are also broken down and analyzed in terms of the functional anatomy at play. Participants will deepen their understanding of the body and enhance their teaching with improved exercise selection and programming.

This course is recommended for students interested in progressing to the STOTT PILATES® Intensive Mat and/or Reformer Course.

OBSERVATIONS, PRACTICE TEACHING & PHYSICAL REVIEW

A minimum number of hours of observation, practice teaching and physical review are required for all courses and should be completed between instructed sessions at any STOTT PILATES® facility. Additional training may be required before certification.

Practice teaching and physical review hours must be logged outside of class time. The practice logs must be submitted on your exam date (either written or practical exam). If the student fails to submit all the logs within 7 days from the last portion of the exam, the entire exam will be void.

Observation

Includes watching sessions taught by a STOTT PILATES Certified Instructor or relevant STOTT PILATES videos.

Physical review

Means physically performing the exercises learned in class. Taking a class with a STOTT PILATES Certified Instructor or working out with video can qualify as physical review hours, and can be completed individually or with other students.

INSTRUCTOR TRAINER BEC

Bec has over 30 years of experience in the dancing industry, specializing in theatrical dance and acrobatics.

After a career change and five children later, Bec completed the STOTT PILATES® Full Certification. She has been teaching the STOTT PILATES method for five years now, along with Total Barre®, ZEN•GA®, and CORE.

Bec has always been passionate about teaching others, so becoming a Merrithew® Instructor Trainer was a natural next step. She is impressed by the STOTT PILATES method as it develops strength, flexibility, and mobility, all while allowing people to have fun. She is fascinated by fascial movement and will continue to broaden her knowledge in this field.
